Zeina Barhoum
Artwork
Zeina was a second place winner in Jordan for her first painting in an art competition for children. She took art classes as a kid to enhance her drawing skills. Throughout her studies, Zeina had developed a great interest in Renaissance and Impressionist painters, such as Giovanni Bellini, Andrea Del Castango and Claude Monet. Coming from an enriched background of image making and commercial art & design, during her degree, she was drawn to famous French commercial poster artist and typeface designer A.M. Cassandre. Her combined artwork of abstract imagery and type depicts a mélange of two cultures; the western and the Middle-Eastern, which is a reflection of her own character. She has attended several painting and design workshops in Switzerland and Jordan, along with a typography and calligraphy workshop in the UAE.

Considering Zeina’s other profession as an Opera singer, she has also approached the implementation of her artwork in creating visual harmony using creativity and inspiration of the two worlds, therefore illustrating a great deal of surrealism in her imagery.

Under the patronage of HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein, The Arabic soprano Zeina Barhoum and Somerset artist Peter Lawrence held an art exhibition that included some of their paintings, as part of Alcántara Beyond the Wells: Bridging Cultures with Music and Art, which was held from October 2017 till January 2018 at the Bishop's Palace in Wells, UK. HRH Princess Muna and the Dean of Wells Cathedral Dr. John Davies have contributed forewords to the book.
